Friday 3rd to Monday 6th May 2019

Crickhowell Choral Society marks its 25th Music Festival from 3rd to 6th May 2019. Plans are at an advanced stage for this auspicious event for which the Society’s president, Elin Manahan Thomas, has accepted an invitation to join in the celebrations. Elin, who was seen by millions of viewers singing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle earlier this year, will be joined by the acclaimed tenor Nicholas Mulroy and outstanding alto Mark Chambers.

Stephen Marshall, Crickhowell Choral Society's musical director, has always striven to breathe new life into both familiar and lesser-known masterpieces, which have received critical acclaim over the years, drawing in such notable performers as Emma Kirkby and James Gilchrist. The programme for 2019 will include a semi-dramatisation of Purcell's The Faerie Queen, which opened the very first festival in 1995, and the monumental B Minor Mass by J.S.Bach.

Crickhowell Choral Society is proudly eclectic in its musical repertoire and choice of performers, and next year's festival folk night will welcome Alaw, the exciting Welsh trio which thrilled the audience and television viewers at this year's BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall in London.

It is vitally important that future generations will continue to participate in and enjoy music and music-making of all genres, and Crickhowell Choral Society is committed to providing musical opportunities for young people in the area through joining the choir. For the past few years it has been running a highly successful scholarship scheme for local young people and as part of 2019's festival, Elin Manahan Thomas will be taking a vocal masterclass for the current scholars in collaboration with Crickhowell High School. The school has been happy to embrace the Society's offer of opportunities for its music and performing arts students and the choir gains delightful young people developing their talent with enthusiasm and energy.
